Records Retention Schedules

The UNT System and UNT Records Retention Schedules are designed to aggregate all records and information retention requirements that apply to records and information created, stored, maintained and disposed by the UNT System, UNT and UNT Dallas.  The schedules combine applicable federal and state laws, regulations, internal policy, best practices and current organizational processes that affect records management.  While the retention schedules are constantly being modified to remain an active reflection of institutional recordkeeping practices, all UNT System retention schedules are formally recertified by the Director of Institutional Records Management every three calendar years.

The schedules are managed in accordance with Texas Government Code Chapter 441 and are available in a web-based system, RRS Online.  RRS Online is provided for easier searching and viewing of record series.  This system runs parallel to official versions of the UNT and UNT System Records Retention Schedules but allow the information to be presented in a user-friendly format.

Currently, the UNT Records Retention Schedule also applies to what is now the University of North Texas at Dallas.  During the most recent recertification cycle, the UNT Dallas Campus fell under the UNT records retention schedule.  During the next recertification cycle, a UNT Dallas records retention schedule will be developed.  Any questions about this process should be directed to records@unt.edu
